HOSPITAL SERVICES

The 250-bed hospital offers round the clock emergency services for pregnant women, children, adults and people with eye diseases.

There are separate clinics for diabetes, infertility, antenatal care, Sickle Cell Disease backed by modern laboratories, X-ray and Ultra-Sonography Units, Operation Theatres, and appropriate Blood Storage facilities. Compassionate care by our dedicated staff blended with the latest technology provides a delightful patient experience. The hospital has a full time staff of about 25 medical doctors and other 100 trained paramedical staff, and total staff of 210. The mother and baby friendly hospital is also recognized as First Referral Unit (FRU) by state government and UNICEF and ensures Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric & Newborn Care (CEmONC).

Sharda Mahila Vikas Society

The main programmes under SMVS are economic activities like snacks and garment making, savings/credit programmes, self-defence training courses, education and awareness.

1,500 deprived women were empowered by Sharda Mahila Vikas Society thru various financial and academic programs. 17,943 children have been provided with extra-school coaching and holistic education so that they may become responsible future citizens.

Adolescent Programme

Awareness classes are conducted at schools, boarding schools and villages. Adolescents are screened and treated for health and non health issues. We have developed a mobile application that closely tracks health status and vulnerability of adolescents. Client-centred counselling is also provided. Awareness related to Reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, anemia, sickle cell ,STD,RTI, Early age marriage and pregnance etc done. IEC material resources are developed and disseminated. Teachers, ASHA, Aanganwadi workers, and 300 peer educators are trained and supported to improve the health conditions of adolescents at a large scale. We also organize educational tours, exposure visits for adolescents and community camps at the village level to involve the community and parents.

Comprehensive Eye Care Project

The programmes include state of the art treatment of eye diseases by advanced types of equipment in the hospital and Netra Raksha Kendra for tertiary eye care. Arrangements were made for operations by microsurgeries like retinal surgeries and intraocular lens placement for cataracts. The hospital has modern operating rooms with operating microscopes, Diode & Yag lasers, an autorefractor, Phaco-emulsification & automated perimeter. Diagnostic eye camps are organised once a week in interior villages of Bharuch, Narmada, Surat & Vadodara districts. As a result, people get treatment & spectacles near their homes. Patients with cataracts are identified and brought to the hospital at Jhagadia to get operated on. In addition, spectacles are made available on the hospital campus and in camps through the optical shop at a low cost.

Health Training & Resource Center

Various types of customized courses are offered as per the needs of the trainees coming from various NGOs as well as Government sector. These include trainings for TBAs, Community Health Volunteers, Anganwadi Workers (AWW), Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), Workers for Community Based Rehabilitation of Blind program (CBR Workers), paramedics of Health and Eye Care, health supervisors, project managers, doctors including ophthalmologists, government health officials and staff of Mother NGOs an Field NGOs. SEWA Rural’s training centre is the first to be recognised as an NGO facility by UNICEF and the Government for training of IMNCI (Integrated Management of neonatal and childhood illness and SBA skill birth attendant Training.

Community Health & Research

SEWA Rural (2003-2011) had managed a “Family Centred Safe Motherhood and New Born Care Project” in entire Jhagadia covering 168 villages (pop. 175,000). The main aim of the project was to develop an evidence based model to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity in resource poor settings. The front line volunteers are confident as they have assurance of SEWA Rural’s base hospital which provides round the clock comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care (CEmONC) and also recognised as a First Referral Unit (FRU) by UNICEF. The micro level interventions resulted in 75 % reduction in cases of maternal deaths and about 39 % reduction in Neonatal Mortality Rate. Institutional delivery rate increased from 22 to 84%.
