SEWA Rural is a voluntary development organization involved in health & development activities in rural tribal area of South Gujarat at Jhagadia since 1980. The activities were initiated by a group of young professionals having education & experience in India & abroad and based upon the ideals & ideas of Swami Vivekananda & Mahatma Gandhi.

Conduct various projects and experiments in Public Health so that the highly deprived rural population avail good quality health services. Establish models so that successful models may be effectively applied in other areas.
To satisfy the primary and advanced eye care needs of the rural population of thousands of villages of Bharuch, Nandod, Surat and Vadodara districts and border areas of Maharashtra. A unique, comprehensive eye programme that encompasses all components of eye care, prevention, promotion & rehabilitation was born out of community need.
To reduce anaemia, regulate menstrual hygiene management (MHM) reproductive health awareness, and reduce school dropouts and drug addiction in Jhagadia block.
This programme has been under the aegis of an independent organization, Sharada Mahila Vikas Society (SMVS).
We at SEWA Rural aim to identify the root causes of healthcare challenges and develop innovative solutions in coordination with various stakeholders, including Central and State governments, development agencies, CSR groups and the community, to combat poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women.
Our health training programs have benefited 26,378 health workers of over 130 organizations all over the world. Vocational Training Centre for Women has trained 148 girls as nursing assistants, 36 Laboratory assistants,650 tailoring, 106 computers operators and more than 1500 adolescents an women received self-defense Training.
A vocational training centre was started in 1987 to provide skill and character building education to young people from poor and tribal families. All get jobs in nearby industries after the completion of training; thus, more than 3,500 families are able to get out of poverty.
Jhagadia block (“Taluka”) is located in tribal belt which stretches along the eastern border of Gujarat state. Its population is 191,000 (census data from 2011) which is predominantly tribal. Jhagadia town is 2 km. south of Narmada River. Apart of agriculture, G.I.D.C. is main source of employment.
Jhagadia is one of the most underdeveloped blocks of Gujarat state. Poverty, illiteracy and ill health are highly prevalent.
